I never wanted to be this person, but here it goes . . .

Over the past few weeks I have come across MANY blogs talking about blog rights and wrongs. I didn't even know shit like blog rules existed, but what do I know. I have only been blogging since January and I apparently never got the blog rules memo- but that's okay because I want to do me.

I read a blog last night that was the last straw for me. Instead of leaving a nasty comment- I decided to take my thoughts to my own blog.

I think it is fine if bloggers want to take the time to write a blog rules post. It's their blog. Who am I to judge what they put on it {and clearly I am touching on it right now}.

The ONE thing that continually bothers me is when people say "I don't care about how many followers I have." Lie.Lie.Lie. Of course you care! Who wouldn't care? You wouldn't be talking about it if you didn't care.

I started this blog of mine back in January with zero expectations. I didn't know where I was taking it, how long I would do it, or even if I would enjoy doing it. I am literally taking it one post at a time, but the thing I did know? I knew I wanted someone to read it. Even if it was just my Mom and my husband, it was someone who acknowledges that I wrote something.

If I wanted no one to read then it would be called a diary and made private.

I care about my followers. There! I said it. I do care. It wasn't the reason I started blogging but it is a HUGE benefit of it. HUGE. It makes me do all kinds of crazy happy dances to know that there are people out in the world {whom I have never met} who take the time to read the crazy boring bad grammar shit I post.

I am thankful. I am grateful. I am humbled by this experience.

I love my followers! I love each and every single one of you who took the time to click the follow button. I love when people leave a comment. I love anyone who stops by, even if it is just a brief look to realize they don't like my blog. It makes me all kinds of happy.

I needed you all to know that I greatly appreciate you! I can't take the nonsense follower comments anymore and I wanted share that I do give a damn about you.

Thanks for stopping by and rockin my blog world into places I never even pictured.

  1. So true. While it's not ALL about the followers it's definitely motivation to keep blogging. I mean I never ever ever thought I'd get to 200 let alone 1000 but hot damn if it doesn't feel good to see that number go up. Obviously I'd still blog the same no matter how many people were reading but it always feels good when someone comments or tells you how much they like your little piece of the internet. Anyone who says that isn't true is a liar.

  5. I think some people have got stuck on a high horse with all these rules and what not.. I've read so many and while I wonder if they are being serious or sarcastic it's like who cares blog for you.. I definitely think everyone no matter how much they try to convince others they do care about followers. Everyone does.. So you hit the nail right on the head with this post.. :)

  6. This whole I don't care about followers thing is crazy. We care. We all care. Because we didn't start blogging to just write for ourselves. I kept a diary for years for that. That being said, I write what I want to write about, and if it bothers someone they can keep it moving onto the next blog out there. All these rules posts lately are driving me nutty. Live and let live I say.

  7. I agree! If they truly don't care about followers/comments, then why do they have the ability to follow and leave comments on their blog? Great post.

  9. I just found your blog and you make so much sense! I started blogging a few months ago but just recently religiously. You know the best part of it for me? Other bloggers (usually my followers) blogs! I get to have a glimpse into other people's lives and it is so interesting. I'm so glad I decided to start this journey too!

  10. Wait you don't blog "just for you?" Really? Kidding. Totally am. I'm with ya---everyone cares about followers! You would not write and post online if you didn't want people to read it. Otherwise you'd keep a journal.

I've been thinking about this type of post for a while too. We all want to connect, to inspire, to be valued for one reason or another. That makes us human.

  11. I couldn't agree with you more! While it's not ALL about the followers, knowing that people are out there reading my blog is nice and it really is a big motivation to know that people are reading it. Even thought I started my blog back in 2008, I've only been seriously blogging for about a year and I still do a little mental happy dance everytime my email chimes and it's an email letting me know that I have a new comment on one of my posts. :-)

  12. Preach.

We love when our numbers go up, and our numbers go up because we, as bloggers, are individuals with feelings and thoughts/ideas we can share...WITHOUT dumb rules.

I haven't come across any blog rule posts, but have heard others mentioning them. Silly.

  13. I ADORE this post because you are dead on. No matter who you are, you CARE about the number of followers. Even though we all get in this for us, as time goes by each person we connect with fuels that initiative even more.
